February 2011:

Mr. Blue Eyes

I was sitting on the deck a he ran from the woods and jumped into my lap and started purring.

I set up a temporary kennel in the garage and am housing him there until I can find him a good home.

He actually allowed me to put a harness on him to walk him outside.  He's very tame and super sweet.

Heartbreaking News!

My Beloved Piper died

on Friday, February 25, 2005.

This is one of the hardest things any pet owner will ever have to face.  Our babies don't always stay on this earth as long as we expect.

Piper had stopped eating for 2 days.

It wasn't that unusual for her to slack off on her food when she was in heat.  I had seen signs in her urine that lead me to believe that she was in heat, so I wasn't that concerned the 1st day.  Still I kept a watch to be safe.

On the 2nd day, I tried to feed her with a dropper.  She was very weak but she tried hard to eat and drink water for her mommy.

I woke to find her beautiful body

ice cold the next morning.

This is needless suffering for the bunnies and for us, as bunny owners.  If your bunny shows any signs that it's not eating or drinking

STOP what you're doing and take it to the Vet Immediately.

There's no time to waste!!!

You see bunnies can't make sounds like other animals.  The only way to know if the bunny is sick is to pay close attention to its habits each day, so that you will know what's going on.

Please don't let this happen to your bunny!

It is truly Heartbreaking!!!

If you'd like to visit Piper's Bio with pictures you may do so by clicking on the link to the left.  In time, when my heart can handle it, I will add more pictures of my precious Piper and my other babies.

Good News!

I received an email update from Friends Of Rabbits

About the homeless rabbit from West Virginia. He has been placed in a wonderful foster home.

Thank you to everyone who helped this precious bunny.

Important!!!

I recently got an email from Friends Of Rabbits and here's what they wrote:

We're asking for your help. We desperately need a foster home to take in a homeless rabbit from West Virginia. He is a three-year-old male who lived with his human in a trailer. His human companion had to abandon him when he lost his human. Now he is living in his car.  An animal rescue group from West Virginia who is temporarily housing him has asked for our help, but all our foster homes are full. Won't you please help us? If you can make some room for a rabbit in your home where he can have social interaction with a human, and safely exercise every day, we can take in the homeless rabbit. Otherwise, he'll be relegated to a small cage at the W.VA shelter attached to an outbuilding in the freezing cold. All our fosterers receive a starter bag of litter and hay; we'll pay for the medical expenses of the rabbit, including having him neutered. We'll also help with the set up. And we'll advertise the rabbit on our homepage and at our events. We ask all potential fosterers to attend a Bunny 101 class (we'll do it in your home) on rabbit care, and to be willing to bring foster rabbits to our adoption days and other events. If you can help, please let us know.

Thanks so much,

Vineeta www.friendsofrabbits.org (703) 548-6793

I pray that someone out there will be able to help by fostering the poor bunny!

Won't you please offer your assistance and foster this animal in need?

A Little About Me

I guess you are wondering why I have used a Gamecock on my website about animals.  Well, a Gamecock is an animal.

However, I graduated from the University of South Carolina (USC) and I played college basketball there.  Before going to USC, I went to a Junior College where I also played on the basketball team.  While playing at the Junior College, some of my team-mates gave me the nickname Frog because I was only 5'6" and could jump higher than some players who played center.  Not all the players at USC called me Frog, some of them gave me the nickname Pocahontas.  So I decided to combine my pet site with my college (USC) & basketball ( a sport I love).  Other than basketball, I enjoy softball, tennis, horseback riding, and watching football.

I've always had a love for animals since I was a toddler.  My family resided on a farm.  There were always animals around.  There were ponies, cows, horses, mules, chickens, roosters, turkeys, peacocks, pigs, rabbits, dogs, cats, pigeons.....   Dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits were my favorites growing up and that hasn't changed.

I was born into a large family.  I'm the youngest of 6 children.  I have always loved my family and miss the ones that have passed on (my Mom and 2 brothers).  But I am truly blessed to still have my father, my three sisters, and my nieces and nephews in my life.  They are a treasure to my heart!

I hate to admit having a favorite of my pets, but I do.  Piper and Coffee are my babies and I love them, but Stormy has made a special place in my heart.  She is my favorite and I love her dearly.

I hope you enjoy the site.  Thank you for visiting.
